Updating fire evacuation plans

• Changing the layout of a building or premises - if the building has undergone reconstruction, redevelopment, a change in the purpose of the premises or other similar changes that have affected the escape routes, the location of exits or fire protection facilities, the evacuation plan must be updated in accordance with the new configuration of the facility.
• Change in the number or composition of people in the building / on the floor - if there is a significant change in the number of people in the building at the same time (for example, an increase in staff, a change in the nature of the facility's use, for example, from office to shopping), the plan must be revised to take into account the new evacuation conditions.
• Changing the locations of fire-fighting equipment - if the location of fire extinguishers, fire cranes, warning devices or other fire protection elements specified in the plan has changed, it is necessary to update the graphic and text parts of the plan.
• Identification of inconsistencies during inspections - if violations are detected during the inspection by the state fire supervision authorities (for example, the plan does not match the actual layout or outdated information), the facility manager is obliged to update the plan to eliminate the comments.
• Changing regulatory requirements - when new regulatory legal acts come into force that establish other requirements for the content or design of the evacuation plan (for example, updating the form of the plan, etc.), existing plans must be brought into line with the new standards.
• Periodic updating - although there is no direct indication of the mandatory frequency of updating the plan in regulatory documents, it is recommended to regularly check the relevance of the plan (for example, every 1-3 years) as part of general fire safety measures, especially if the facility is subject to frequent changes in operation.

Materials and technologies for the preparation of an evacuation plan

• Paper with lamination is the most budget-friendly and practical option. The plan is printed on thick paper and covered with a lamination film that prevents fading and damage. Such a plan is ready to be placed on the wall at no additional cost.
• On plastic, a full–color image is printed on a self-adhesive film and glued onto a 2 or 4 mm thick PVC sheet. It is a lightweight, durable and moisture-resistant material, which makes it ideal for rooms with high traffic and non-standard climate.
• Framed – framing a plan in a baguette frame emphasizes its importance and gives an elegant look, harmoniously complementing the interior of an office, lobby or public space. The glass frame will protect the evacuation plan from external influences, extending its service life.
• Volumetric – the design is a plastic box with an end face 20-30 mm high. Such an evacuation plan is especially noticeable on the wall due to the three-dimensional effect, which attracts additional attention and facilitates the perception of information even in an emergency situation.

The size of the evacuation plans

• for rooms up to 500 - 700 sq. m. m - the minimum size of the plan is A3 format (297x420 mm)
• For rooms up to 1000 sq. m.: the minimum floor plan size is 600x400 mm.
• For rooms over 1000 sq. m.: the minimum size is 800x600 mm.
